Tips to organise clothes in your storage unit

Before starting to organise clothes in the storage unit you need to make sure that it is as clean as possible. Once you have taken them out of the cupboard, it is a good idea to wash them at home and, if they need a special treatment, take them to a dry cleaner. The cupboard itself should be clean before hanging the new season's clothes in it.

One of the main tips to organise clothes in the storage unit is that it should be in the best condition possible. After washing the clothes, they should be stored in thermal covers that protect from any type of damp or dust, unless they are garments that need to breathe, such as leather. In these cases, it is best to buy a special cover that protects and lets them breathe at the same time.

Clothes should be organised into boxes that have a common theme. Don't mix trousers with jerseys or other kinds of garments. Each one should have an equivalence so that if you need a garment later, you don't have to search all of them. Suits, dresses and coats that shouldn't be folded will lose their shape if you do fold them. Therefore, a good alternative is to hang them on coat hangers or hooks from the ceiling so that they maintain their original shape. They should however be protected like all your other garments.

In the boxes, you might like to introduce perfumed products to avoid unpleasant odours, as well as fight against any type of insect that may appear.

To organise clothes in your storage unit, the boxes themselves should be fully labelled so that you know what is in each of them. The key is not to drive yourself crazy and therefore it's best to make a note of everything and more. Don't be embarrassed about labelling time and time again. In the end, you will realise that this is something that will help you in the future.

If there are several people, you could order the garments according to who they belong to, to yet again avoid the conflict of not knowing what you're looking for.
If you are keeping two seasons’ worth of clothes, place them so that the first ones you're going to need are at the front. The ones that you're going to need later can sit at the back as they will not be needed at the moment.
